About Us
Life Matters International (LMI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is committed to reducing the number of women dying from preventable causes related to pregnancy as the first step to our vision of thriving families globally.
We believe access to disease prevention and equitable, technology-driven quality healthcare is possible even in most underserved areas through skilled primary caregivers leveraging the pivotal role of mothers within families.
Our Vision
Thriving families across the globe through skilled providers, and mothers as cornerstones for health and well-being.
Our Philosophy
Women assume responsibility not just for their own health, but also their offsprings’ during the duration of their pregnancy.
After giving birth, this process continues as mothers gradually assume responsibility for the health of their entire families. They serve as the bridge to the existing primary healthcare system.
Due to the shortage of physicians, rural healthcare systems depend on physician extenders such as midwives or nurses in rural areas. Maternal survival, maternal education plus the capacity of these physician extenders are thus the basis on which to build effective healthcare allowing for health and well-being for the entire family.
Our Goals
Our Medical Missions
For each target municipality in the Philippines, our missions are conducted several times per year over a total period of over one year, each mission lasting one to two weeks.
They are carefully designed to seamlessly integrate into local conditions at the target site for maximum impact for sustained quality care lasting beyond the one year period.
